it's a boy

my dear friends jen and marc recently brought an adorable little boy into the world. i was eager to see their nursery as my family has had a year of all baby girls, all with adorable nurseries (including june's), but I haven't thought much about boy nurseries. jen has a very classic and sophisticated look to her home design that is also somehow super cozy and welcoming. her son's nursery is no exception.

I love the bedding from buy buy baby. it is so soft and sweetly perfect for a boy without being too boy.

the walls painted half catalina blue from benjamin moore are a subtle way to make the room boyish without taking away from the simple, classic feel. and I love the magazine rack book shelf (bottom right), I can just imagine little ryan toddling over to the shelf to pick out a favorite at bedtime.

etc.

this book is my new hero.

for my birthday, my loving brother and stylish sister-in-law sent me sibella court's design book etcetera etc. her philosophy behind interior design is to take your time, gather around you the artifacts in your life that really matter and make these artifacts the starting point and focus of your home. she talks about picking 10 colors from your favorite things in life and making these ten colors your palette. not only is the book wise and insightful, it is truly gorgeous and inspiring. i am in love.

new living room

We're going to pick up my hand-me-down wingback chair and ottoman tomorrow! So I thought I'd share my living room inspiration board. In a perfect world I'd use a portion of our tax refund to buy a new couch and rug, but I doubt Nick's frugal ass will let me.

I'll post more details on the fabrics later. The ottoman fabric is still up for debate. For those of you who know the name of these fabrics upon sight....you may want to get out more. I'm talking to myself too.

obsessed

This living room by California interior designer Jill Johnson is stuck in my head! Soothing and beachy, but in a funky way.

The rest of the house isn't bad either.

zipper pillow tutorial

Yes!!! I was just searching YouTube the other day for a simple but thorough tutorial on how to make a zippered pillow.....to no avail. But oh, the crap I did find. Then this morning, I see that Design Sponge has posted a fabulous one here. Thank you, thank you!

June needs a new pillow for her reading chair and I've got lots of leftover fabric laying around. Plus I just bought this gorgeousness....Amy Butler, Midwest Modern, Honeycomb in Green.

cup o' joe

as you are well aware, I am into drinking espresso lately. now, we need cups.

we could go with simple, clean white (matches our dinnerware):
crate and barrel

or slightly more personal (my husband is from nyc):

or artsy and cute (most of our kitchen does resemble anthropologie's home section):

or restaurant/world traveler bistro style:

sur la table

or dollar store finds (definitely preferring the price and the eclectic look):

feeling quilty

Bridget got a sewing machine for Christmas and she's threatening to make a quilt. This great blog, A Quilt is Nice, by Nettie is full of tutorials for gorgeous, modern, but cozy looking quilts. Some of them have BK written all over 'em. I'm loving the zig zag.
