I've always imagined paradise will be a kind of library - jorge luis borges

teaching six (yep, they added another course to my diabolical schedule) english classes keeps me busy with my reading. currently, I am teaching and reading one hundred years of solitude, the crucible, the great gatsby, narrative of the life of frederick douglass, the merchant of venice, and a midsummer night's dream. cripes.
since I somehow relate everything in my real life to my secret, fantasy decor life, I am wondering: how do you decorate with your books?

nothing compares

complete, uninhibited and confident laughter is so hot.

oh the things I could do

mmm. lamps.

run and get it

This great diamond pattern jute rug is on sale at Ballard Designs. Only $200 for an 8x10 foot rug! I'm partial to the brown.

Snow Day + Lonny = Awesome!

No work for state government today (due to impending blizzard)...and the new edition of Lonny??? It doesn't get much better! And I still sent my kid to daycare. Genius!

hipster baby

Bridget, how would Unhappy Hipsters caption this photo? (That's my kid on the right, readers)

Perhaps....

"Despite their hipsters parents assurance that they would like sushi, they were terrified"

By the way, of course I didn't give my kid raw fish. I brought food for her. Though I did let her lick the seaweed.

grammy glamour

Despite the fact that, in my everyday life, it doesn't appear that I love fashion....I do. And award show red carpets are a way to living vicariously through celebrities who have every dress option at their fingertips. That's why it was so disappointing to see the fashion snore fest at the Golden Globes and SAG awards. Boring...what where all the ladies thinking? However, the Grammy red carpet this year was awesome - edgy and cool and fashion forward. Exactly how I would dress, if JayZ and I had time to attend the show...our busy schedule of jewelry-buying and laughing over champagne is so time-consuming.

The Porches Inn

I'm dying for a weekend at the utterly cool Porches Inn in western Mass. When the Massachusettus Museum of Contemporary Art was built in a 19th century mill complex in North Adams, a nearby set of Victorian row houses were converted into this unique hotel. The 47-room inn, self-described as "retro edgy with industrial granny chic", is a great combination of re-development, revitalization, art, and style. The fact that it's tied to Mass MoCA is very cool, but the inn also includes thoughtful amenities like a bonfire pit, pool, and hiking trails in the surrounding Berkshires.

playful but classic

I was in CVS yesterday, waiting to have a prescription filled and browsing the magazine rack. The selection sucked so I picked up Traditional Home - not usually a shelter mag I'd reach for. But I loved what I saw in this month's issue! Traditional...maybe. Spunky and classy...yes!
